About

Guided Growth provides compassionate, expert support to families, educators, and schools navigating the complexities of special education. Founded by Dr. Deborah R. Mitchell, an educator and administrator with more than 30 years of experience in special education, disability services, and instructional leadership, Guided Growth is grounded in deep expertise and a steadfast commitment to student success.

For families, we offer individualized advocacy—clarifying evaluations, preparing for IEP and 504 meetings, ensuring appropriate accommodations, and empowering parents to make informed, confident decisions. Guided Growth also specializes in transition planning for college-bound students, drawing on Dr. Mitchell’s extensive experience as a Disability Services Director at a four-year university. We help students understand accommodation processes, documentation requirements, self-advocacy skills, and the major differences between high school and college support systems.

For schools, teachers, and administrators, Guided Growth provides targeted consulting to strengthen special education practice. This includes support with differentiated instruction, MTSS/RTI implementation, behavior and classroom management, trauma-informed strategies, and building inclusive, accessible environments that meet the needs of diverse learners.

At Guided Growth, we believe every learner deserves a clear, equitable path forward—and we stand beside families and educators with clarity, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to progress.

Meet Our Founder and Understand Our Mission

With a rich background as a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner and a dedicated special education teacher, our founder has spent years advocating for students with diverse learning needs. Her experience spans resource, inclusion, and self-contained settings, as well as serving as an elementary and middle school administrator. Most recently, she held the position of Disability Services Director at a private university, where she honed her skills in navigating the complexities of special education services and rights. This extensive experience informs our mission at Guided Growth Special Education Advocacy & Consulting, LLC, ensuring that parents receive the guidance they need throughout the referral and placement process.

Guided Growth Special Education Advocacy & Consulting was founded to bring clarity, collaboration, and equity to every student's educational journey. By partnering with educators to improve classroom practices and working alongside parents to understand services, rights, and next steps; we help ensure students receive the meaningful support they need to thrive. Our approach is grounded in expertise, compassion, and solutions. Whether guiding a family through an IEP review or consulting with a school on best practices, our mission remains the same: to build strong connections that lead to lasting achievement for every learner.

Our Philosophy & Approach

At Guided Growth, we believe every student thrives when families and schools work together as true partners. Navigating special education can be overwhelming, and misunderstandings or miscommunication between parents and school teams can unintentionally create barriers. Our philosophy centers on building bridges, fostering trust, and creating shared understanding so that every student receives the support they need to succeed.

We approach each situation with empathy, respect, and a solutions-focused mindset. Rather than positioning ourselves as “in opposition” to schools or parents, we work to facilitate productive conversations, clarify educational rights, and empower families to participate confidently in the decision-making process.

What Sets Us Apart

  • Collaborative Advocacy: We focus on teamwork, helping parents and school staff find common ground and shared goals.
  • Bridging the Gap: With decades of experience in education and administration, we understand the perspectives of both families and schools, allowing us to translate concerns, clarify expectations, and foster effective communication.
  • Student-Centered Solutions: Every recommendation, strategy, and consultation is tailored to the unique strengths, challenges, and goals of the student.
  • Practical Guidance: We provide clear, actionable steps, whether preparing for IEP meetings, understanding evaluations, or navigating complex educational policies.

Our goal is not just advocacy—it’s connection, collaboration, and empowerment. By bridging the gap between parents and schools, we create a foundation where students can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.

Clarity and Ethics in Advocacy

At Guided Growth, integrity, transparency, and respect guide everything we do. We recognize that families and schools often navigate complex, emotionally charged situations, and our role is to provide clear, ethical, and collaborative support every step of the way.

Our Commitment

  • Advocacy Within Scope: We provide guidance, support, and consultation for families and schools, but we do not provide legal representation. When legal expertise is needed, we help families connect with qualified professionals.
  • Confidentiality & Privacy: We protect the sensitive information of students and families, following best practices to maintain trust and respect for every individual we serve.
  • Honest Communication: We strive for transparency in all interactions, providing clear expectations, realistic recommendations, and unbiased guidance to support informed decision-making.
  • Collaboration Over Conflict: Our approach focuses on bridging understanding, fostering productive dialogue, and promoting solutions that prioritize the student’s success rather than creating adversarial dynamics.

We believe ethical advocacy is not just about following rules—it’s about creating trusting, respectful relationships where families, educators, and students can thrive together.
